There’s no doubt about it – veganism is on the rise.
In fact, 2016 has also been noted as the biggest year for vegans.
In the UK, there has been a whopping 350% rise in the number of vegans and is now considered as the fastest growing lifestyle as per recent survey by the Vegan Society.
While the number of those joining the veganism lifestyle is undoubtedly increasing, with some people opting for the diet to loose weight, there are some who end up abandoning it.
In a study performed by the Humane Research Council involving 11, 400 US adults, about 70% failed to stick to the diet while the rest remains successful in keeping it up. So, what made them do well and why did others fail? Here are the top reasons.
Reason #01: Successful Vegans Take it Slow
Turning your entire diet around cannot happen overnight. People who do well as vegans did not wake up one day and simply embraced veganism instantly.
They started off making small changes in their diet until they have become fully-fledged vegan. The right and recommended approach is to take it slow or go at a comfortable pace.
For instance, some people started off as ‘Flexitarians’ or those who started adopting plant-based diet but with the inclusion of occasional meat.
In other words, there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all approach, when it comes to becoming and staying vegan.
Reason #02: Successful Vegans Stay Adventurous with Food
Being vegan does not mean eating just bland or green food every day. About one-third of those who quit being a vegan start to be bored with their food choices.
Those who are able to stay vegan leave their comfort zone and go on a culinary voyage to try and discover new cuisines like these vegan sushi:
There is a growing number of vegan recipes that are inspired from different types of cuisine – from Asian , Western, to Mediterranean – name it all.
Reason #03: Successful Vegans Keep Remembering Why They Started in the First Place
One of the biggest motivators of staying vegan for many people is the set of reasons they started embracing it.
They keep themselves motivated and continuously enrich their knowledge on the benefits of becoming a vegan. Watch uplifting videos become a good visual reminder for them.
Reason #04: Successful Vegans Aren’t Afraid to Ask For Help
As there is a lot to change when becoming a vegan, others tend to get overwhelmed with questions such as where to find vegan ingredients, how to talk about it, etc.
This is not the case for those vegans who have successfully adopted the lifestyle. They research and join useful channels online and offline to find answers to their questions. They seek help from the local community of vegans. Most importantly, they are not afraid to be judged.
If you think being a vegan is a breeze, you are wrong. However, it does not have to stay that way.
Staying committed and cultivating a breadth of knowledge on veganism can help you live and stick with it.
